Melbourne is, with no doubt, one of world’s most livable cities and it was ranked on the first place for three consecutive years. Not surprisingly, Melbourne is also known as the capital of arts and it truly lives up to its name, announcing an exciting line up of events every month. From art to fashion to coffee expo, Melbourne has it all, so we have highlighted five of the must-see festivals you might come across on your trip to Australia.

White Night was inspired by Paris’ Nuit Blanche which has grown to be celebrated over 20 cities globally, but Melbourne’s unique interpretation of this worldwide phenomenon captured the imagination of the world by attracting more than 300,00 people. For 12 hours, from 7pm to 7am, venues and major cultural institutions take part in the performance. Exhibitions, street performances, lighting installations, film screenings, concerts and many other fun activities could be seen this year on February 22nd. The date for 2015 has not yet been announced but it sure will be as exciting as the previous one.

Just like this year, if you happen to find a ticket to the runway show, make sure you keep an eye on top-star celebrities. Melbourne Fashion Festival is an opportunity for fashionistas to watch at work top designers, attend beauty workshops and seminars related to the fashion industry. The tickets can be purchased online so maybe you should check the official website on a regular basis at the beginning of next year.

Melbourne International Coffee Expo usually happens in May, when thousands of baristas battle it out in nerve-wrecking competitions like the World Latte Art Championship, World Cup Tasters Championship and World Coffee in Good Spirit Championship. With over 150 exhibitors to visit, guests have two days to taste and but some of the best coffee in the world.

The Royal Melbourne Show is held for 12 days straight, from September 20 to October 1st 2014, and is jam packed with an extensive range of activities such as wine tasting, carnival rides, award-winning food and animal shows. Animals like cows, dogs, horses, goats and sheep must complete to win the blue ribbon and meanwhile you can interact with baby animals which are all gathered in a nursery.

Melbourne Cup Day will be held on 4th of November 2014 and is a horse racing event that was declared a public holiday in the state of Victoria because Melbournians love to celebrate, and it is no surprise that the fashion and food industry are largely involved in this special occasion. Millinery is almost mandatory for the ladies and food stands are widely available at the race courses.
